National Youth Science Forum

National Youth Science Forum (NYSF)

The National Youth Science Forum (NYSF) is a program for students between Year 11 and Year 12, interested in a career in science or engineering, to connect the students attending with the possible futures open to them through exposure to outstanding Australian scientists, research and industry facilities.

Testimonial from a parent of this years attendee.

Thank you for sponsoring Jessica Scott throughout her Year 12 to attend NYSF and LIYSF.  She enjoyed both experiences and appreciates the hard work, time and effort you have all put in to raising the required funds to assist her in attending these events.  Attached is a photo of her taken for her Career Aspirations (dress-up) day in her final Year 12 week before exams (she’s currently half-way through).

The main event is a twelve day Forum which can be attended in Canberra or Brisbane held in January each year. This is an event for capable and well rounded students, with competitive selection based on academic ability, personal qualities, a range of interests inside and outside school, and strong positive connections within the community.  Applying students must be Australian citizens or have permanent resident of Australia status.

There is a cost of the event for each student, the Rotary Club of Caboolture normally sponsors a student each year by paying part of that cost. The student or his/her family is required to pay the remainder to the NYSF.

Every  applicant is required to have their application endorsed by a Rotary Club prior to submission.

Full information is available on

www.nysf.edu.au including a guide to the application process.

Any student wishing to obtain endorsement and possible sponsorship from the Rotary Club of Caboolture should email the Youth Service Director at secretary@caboolturerotary.org preferably by mid May, to allow  time for the student to be interviewed and the application properly considered.

Please include in the email the students name, school, email address, and preferred phone contact number.

Students should first complete an online application. A copy of the completed application, plus other required material should then be sent to a Rotary Club.

The Club will review all applications received. All applicants can expect to be contacted by a Club representative within a reasonable time of submitting their application, and may be asked to attend an interview conducted by a panel of Rotary club members. Students selected following our club interview will be required to attend another interview by the Rotary District 9600 NYSF Committee before final selection.
