Adventure in Citizenship
Rotary Adventure in Citizenship (RAIC) is a program for students currently in Year 11, which aims to give delegates an in-depth understanding of Australia’s Parliamentary democracy and what it means to be an Australian citizen.
About 35 delegates (Year 11 students) can be sent to Canberra by their local Rotary clubs.
They will view our Federal Parliament in action, including the Budget speech and Question Time, meet members of parliament and Press Gallery journalists. Through role play, delegates participate in law-making debates and explore the functions of the Parliament.
One of the highlights is having morning tea with the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives. They will visit Canberra institutions such as the War Memorial and the National Library. Most importantly, they can meet and make friends with young people from all over Australia.
The cost of attendance is $1200. This will cover travel to and from Canberra, all accommodation, entrance fees, and meals. Caboolture Rotary would be prepared to pay up to half this amount to support one student from our local area to attend.
Details and application forms are on the website www.raic.org.au. If a student is wishing to be sponsored by Caboolture Rotary Club please contact the Youth Service Director by email at robwy43@bigpond.net.au giving the students name, school, email address and best contact phone number.
Before approving sponsorship we would require a copy of the students completed application form (sections 1 to 3), plus a letter of support from a staff member at the school. The student would then be asked to attend an interview before sponsorship can be approved.
